Originally I only returned to Turangi to take a couple of pictures of the snow covered mountains in the Tongariro National Park. When I got told that people still did the Tongariro Crossing in winter and that I could get all the gear I did not have myself I just could not resist the temptation. So the next morning we set off with a small group to walk the 17km across Mt Tongariro.
If somebody asked me, when is the best time to do the Crossing I would not really know what to answer. In summer it's certainly more colourful and spectecular. In winter it's a lot more fun though. Especially sliding down the moutains on your bum is just great... :)
