Cape Reinga is the northwesternmost tip of NZ. It is here where - according to Maori belief - the spirits of the dead leave Aotearoa and enter the afterlife. A lot easier to see than the spirits is the meeting of the light green Tasman Sea with the dark blue of the Pacific Ocean. There is actually a clear line in the water separating the two. Also, there is spume on the otherwise calm surface where their waves cross.
Cape Reinga is approximately 100km from the next township of significance (Kaitaia) and the last 20km before the cape are unsealed gravel road. On a beautiful day the view is totally worth the long drive though.
