Equipped with some warm clothes and cramp-ons for the ice Olli and I started our trip towards Fox glacier.

Fox glacier is one of three glaciers in the world where you can step out of subtropical rainforest right onto the glacier (The other two are Franz Josef Glacier 20km from Fox Glacier and a glacier in Argentina). It is also one of the few glaciers in the world that is currently growing (20cm per day).

All in all it was pretty impressive walking around on all this ice and seeing the landscape the glacier had shaped during previous ice times.
