When we first reached the west coast we were just stunned by its rough beauty. This was definitely a place where you could feel and see the force of nature.
We then drove a little further south to Punakaiki where we had a look at the Pancake Rocks. A change of soft and hard stone in combination with erosion by water made these rock formations look like a pile of pancakes.
From here we drove on towards Greymouth until the sun set. We then pulled over, got our camping chairs and a couple of beers out and enjoyed the view. It would have been even nicer without the omnipresent sandflies around.
